MOHO, Manchester
With architects Shed KM, Joule designed the prefabricated modular apartment building of 7 storeys. Based on stacking factory built fully fitted prefabricated units onto pre-prepared structural steelwork cores and a central circulation spine, the living accommodation was erected at a rate of 6 apartments a day for the 100 apartments.
Commercial units at ground floor are accommodated in a steel frame built up from a concrete underground car park substructure.
Burton Place, Manchester
Glenn Howells Architects and Joule have built on the experience gained by the personnel involved with the innovative Timber Wharf project on this adjacent building for client Urban Splash.
The building has 88 apartments over 6 storeys with ground floor commercial use. The building shares a two-storey basement car park with the MOHO building.
Lumiere, Manchester
New build residential project of 134 apartments for West Properties with Kinetic AIU Architects. The insitu reinforced concrete building comprises 11 storeys above ground with a two storey below ground car park and post-tensioned upper floors.
Roundhouse, Lancaster
The project comprises 60 contemporary apartments and town houses in the centre of Lancaster for Crosby Homes with Stephenson Bell Architects. The apartments are steel framed with natural stone used structurally in the external walls.
Rockmount, Caldy
This project involved the construction of a new bespoke house for a private Client on a spectacular hilltop site in Caldy with views over the Dee Estuary and to Snowdon beyond. Working closely with ShedKM architects Joule designed an insitu concrete building with flat slabs and incorporating concrete filled slender steel columns to make the most of the views from the open plan living space. The setting out of the building on the site creates a dramatic cantilever to the external terrace as the hillside drops away.
Dwelle, Manchester
Designed and built by Dwelle Limited, Dwelle is a micro-building in a highly sustainable and adaptable form which can be used as a home, office space or other uses. Prototypes have been built for the Grand Designs show at the NEC, and Green Build EXPO at GMex in Manchester. The Gmex prototype was lifted and moved to its current site in Manchester. The construction includes reusable steel screw pile foundations, a steel ground floor platform allowing the building to be moved by lifting. Superstructure is formed from timber panels.
Sandpipers, Lytham St Annes
Working with Hodder Associates, Joule designed this new bespoke house for a private Client on a site close to the sea in Lytham St Annes.
The structure utilizes a steel frame with carefully detailed brickwork cladding, concrete floors and clear open plan roof structures.
Oakfield Avenue
Working with SixTwo Architects, Joule have designed this new house as additional accommodation for family use with a connection to an existing neighbouring property.
The house has a sunken level for gym and spa facilities with large open plan living spaces over. The structure is expressed with exposed concrete, masonry and steelwork.
Irwell Riverside House
An Urban Splash development of the prefabricated House designed by Architect ShedKM, with the House foundations and groundworks, external works, below ground drainage, infrastructure and House Employer's Requirements by Joule.
The site included the phased building of 71 houses in terraces on this riverside site with a new stormwater drainage outfall to the River Irwell.
Stubbs Mews House
An Urban Splash development of the prefabricated House designed by Architect ShedKM.
The project involves construction of a steel frame including transfer structures over a car park to support Houses addressing the canal.
Piercy Street House
An Urban Splash development of the prefabricated House designed by Architect ShedKM adjacent to the Ashton Canal in New Islington.
New Islington Mansion House
For Client Urban Splash the development uses Cross Laminated Timber panels as the primary form for the modular superstructure for the new apartment building. Architect ShedKM and Joule have prepared Employer's Requirements for the 6 storey CLT structure which is designed by a specialist panel manufacturer.
The canal side site is part of a large regeneration site in Manchester and Joule have designed the Mansion House foundations, external works and below ground drainage infrastructure.
Toastrack New Build
Planning permission has been achieved with Ollier Smurthwaite Architects for a new apartment building on the Toastrack site as part of an overall residential development of the former MMU site for Client Estrela.
The building reflects the dramatic structure with a twist in the floor plan at each level of the 12 storeys around a cnetral circular core. The steel frame is braced to resolve the out of balance forces down to the foundations whilst layouts use a facetted arrangement to maintain a repetition in setting out.
Crusader Works, Building 4
A new apartment building as part of the Crusader Mills project for Client Capital and Centric with Contractor Eric Wright and Architect ShedKM.
The 10 storey building is a steel framed structure on piled foundations with precast 'Omnia' floors and steel beams exposed within the apartments. Precast concrete cladding columns and beams support external stack bonded brickwork tied back to lightweight SFS walls internally.
